First let me take the time to introduce myself- I am Adrian, aka: Big Cousin To Adam. This is the first you have heard from me, but definitely not the last. Anson, Adam, and I are all very excited about this blog and we look forward to sharing many stories with all of you, so thank you in advance for tuning in. We spent both of the Seattle series in Seattle with Adam and had the time of our lives, like we always do when we are together. The July series, however, turned out to be a WHOLE new experience for the BURLY BOYZ.
After the Monday night game was complete we headed down to the tunnel to meet up with Adam - as we were all going to ride back to the hotel with eachother. Once we found him, he happened to be on the phone with KEN GRIFFEY JR. and told us that he was going to ride back to the room with KG so at that point we went our separate ways. HOLD UP!!! YES, we were already trippin out because:
1: Our baby cousin/brother is cool with KEN GRIFFEY JR.
2: He has his phone #
3:GRIFFEY IS A LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!
4:We all grew up idolizing this guy and Adam is about to hitch a ride with him!!!!
So the BBZ are walking to our car when all of a sudden we see this white on white 2-door Bentley whip around the corner looking like a spaceship, it pulls over, windows roll down and LOOK who it is.........ADAM and KG. We shook Griffey's hand, met him, and then they drove off.
Next thing we know, we get a call from Adam telling us to meet him at a bar in downtown Seattle across the way from the hotel we were staying in, so we park the car and head over. We get inside and call Adam because he is nowhere to be found - he proceeds to direct us up some stairs, around a couple of corners and then at the end of this long hallway.........THE man himself, KEN GRIFFEY JR., pokes his head out and yells "c'mon ya'll". We were tripping! We headed down the hall got in the elevator with KG and headed up to his PAD people!
Long-story short we hung out with KG until about 1 am- talking 21 seasons of baseball, life, kids and family. At some point we all realized how hungry we all were, so he passed around a menu to all of us and we ordered a nice meal. KG was very kind, welcoming and humble.
The funny thing is that once we were in his home the fame-shock was subdued because we realized how NORMAL he was. As humans we tend to put celebrities on a pedestal and often forget that they are just like us - just with nicer materials. With that said, KEN GRIFFEY JR. will always remain an idol of mine (and I am sure Anson and Adam would say the same) and I will remember that night for the rest of my life.
Welcome to the BURLY life - and we are JUST getting started.
